The transport challenges that city regions like Greater Manchester (GM) face are significant, we need to: support further economic renewal, including integrating transport with growth and development plans particularly in our Growth Locations; promote travel change in the interests of driving down the environmental impact of travel; and ensure an equitable and accessible transport system that provides excellent connectivity for all of our communities.

 

 

Your Role


In this role you will be leading a programme of work that will help us to answer some of the big questions we are currently facing in GM, such as: 

 

 1. How should transport infrastructure support economic growth and the delivery of new homes and jobs in GM's Growth Locations?

 2. How do we develop a long-term transport delivery pipeline for our Growth Locations that deliver our Right Mix and carbon objectives?

 

This role will include:

 

· Leading studies that support integrated transport and land use planning that identify critical and essential transport infrastructure for our Growth Locations;

· Leading the development of a pipeline of transport investment for the Growth Locations;

· Supporting a programme of early development work and key infrastructure development projects that will form part of our next LTP and Transport Delivery Plan; and

· Developing strong relationships with key partners, including Government Departments, national transport agencies, local authorities and with key national policy development networks.

The Strategic Planning team lead the coordination and development of the GM Transport Strategy 2040 (and supporting documents). Working closely with partners and stakeholders the team play a leading role in integrating transport strategy work with wider GM strategic plans, including in relation to growth locations, land use development, regeneration, planning policy and defining and developing GM’s transport investment priorities. We support continuing to maintain GM as an innovative city region and engage heavily at a pan-Northern and national level, to influence the transport-related plans of other agencies.

We need someone with wide ranging knowledge of contemporary transport and land use planning and proven experience of working with multiple stakeholders to help scope, deliver and communicate transport projects which support the development and delivery of GM’s place, transport and environmental plans. Equally, we require candidates to demonstrate how they work within established teams, to deliver effective working relationships for TfGM with key GM partners, including GMCA, Districts and business and public sector networks.
