Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) are seeking a Technical Lead/Architect (Customer Digital Services) to work within our Information Systems (IS) Design Practice. In this role you will play a key part in defining the technology and solutions which underpin our customer facing platforms and act as the technology lead for the agile product teams who support these platforms. Our IS team are currently undergoing a major transformation in terms of both the way we work and the technologies we use, as such this role will provide a great opportunity for you to have a real impact on both TfGM as an organisation and also on the communities which we support.

You’ll be an experienced technologist with the ability to provide technical leadership and architectural vision across the products and services which make up our Customer Digital Services (CDS) ecosystem. You will have a solid background in architecting solutions in an agile environment, with hands on knowledge of key technologies, frameworks and best practice. You will have a good understanding of developments within the wider industry and experience of providing thought leadership and mentoring within the teams which you work with.

Key skills and experience includes:

  • Experience of architecting solutions within a complex business environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to act as an authoritative technical lead for our CDS team.
  • Solid experience of architecting within an Agile environment.
  • Good knowledge of the wider technology industry and key emerging technologies, practices and frameworks.
  • Significant practical knowledge of key technologies, frameworks, practices and tools which we use within our CDS team (e.g. AWS public cloud, API, microservices, Open Data, Go, React, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, relational databases, Terraform, DevOps, etc…).
  • Experience of driving technology change, defining technology frameworks and developing strategies and roadmaps.
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with and influence key business stakeholders, understanding their needs and acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts and concerns to a non-technical audience.
  • The ability to provide mentoring and coaching to build the skills and knowledge of the wider team.
  • Experience with architectural governance frameworks.

The salary for this role is £51,252 - £57,688 per annum with an additional £8,100 per annum paid as a market supplement. Salary will be based upon skills and experience and the market supplement is paid monthly and is reviewed annually. We also offer a range of fantastic benefits, such as:

  • 27 days holiday per annum (plus bank holidays)
  • Free bus travel within Greater Manchester
  • Free Rail or Metrolink travel to and from work within the Greater Manchester boundary
  • Local government pension scheme
